Earth Science Education in Bolivia
As part of the Fulbright Scholarship, I will be traveling to Bolivia in 2025 and again in 2026 to collaborate with colleagues in Bolivia to help advance educational pathways for Earth Science students in the country. The project combines research and education and aims to highlight and provide opportunities for students to pursue their Earth Science education at the next level, wherever they are now. At UMSA, I will be hosting workshops and delivering lectures to both faculty and students, mainly concerning the use of simplified geologic maps in the classroom. I will be sharing these geologic maps (that I make using published maps as a baseline) to all interested parties at UMSA and elsewhere, including schoolhouses in rural communities. The maps are designed for various skill levels and will highlight the local Bolivian geology. The maps are designed to be relatively cheap and easy to distribute, making them accessible to a wide range of instructors and their students.
Examples of the type of geologic materials that will be distributed as part of this program are shown below. The local maps are not shown.
The maps will be printed in black in white and are designed to be colored by students as they learn more about the local geology.
